BPOTY - Celebrating the best images from Germany

In a series of articles we have been showcasing photography from around the world by focusing on competition entries from individual countries and celebrating the work of their photographers. In this article we highlight the best of Germany with breathtaking photography from some very talented photographers.

Our Best Portfolio Award seeks a series of six images that together display a consistency of skill over a number of techniques. Thomas Hinsche from Saxony produced an outstanding portfolio of work in the 2019 competition and won an Olympus OM-D E M1 MKII camera body and M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F/4 IS PRO lens with a combined value of £3,500. Three of our favourite images from his portfolio are shared below.

Also a prize winner, Martin Eschholz was awarded our bronze prize in the Garden and Urban Birds category with an image of a Long-tailed Duck captured in the watery reflections of the Port of Vardø, Varanger, Norway. Martin won a clothing bundle from Country Innovation.

Receiving commendations from the judges were Martin Grimm with his beautiful portrait of a Black-legged Kittiwake entered in the Attention to Detail category, and Rüdiger Schulz for his juvenile Wryneck entered in the Best Portrait category.

All these images feature in the latest BPOTY book which is available to purchase from the BPOTY website.

The 2020 competition is now open for entries, closing on the 30th November 2019. With the standard improving every year, the judges are looking forward to reviewing some great photography from all around the world. Make sure you don’t miss the entry deadline for what is fast becoming one of the world’s most prestigious wildlife photography competitions.
