New Video Award - Win a RED KOMODO Camera

Bird Photographer of the Year will now celebrate both photography and videography, with the addition of a brand new Video Award. Thanks to RED Digital Cinema, the winner will walk away with a RED KOMODO camera worth £6,000.

RED Cameras bring cutting-edge technology to filmmakers at all levels of content creation with a wide range of cinema-grade products. Now, you’ll have the chance to walk away with a cinema camera of your own.

The RED KOMODO is a compact cinema camera with a Super 35mm sensor and 16+ stops of dynamic range. It is capable of recording 6K video at up to 40fps, 4K at 60fps, or 2K at 120fps. You can find the full specification of the camera on the RED website.

This new category of the competition will be introduced for the 2022 cycle, opening in September 2021.

The Video Award will celebrate good cinematography and camera skills. A successful video will:

  • Be 2-5 minutes in length;

  • Form a strong sequence, rather than a collection of unrelated clips;

  • Focus on cinematography and video skills (having a story is a bonus, and should be in addition to good camera skills).

Some guidelines for producing your video, but not essential for success, are:

  • Shoot in at least 1080p resolution;

  • Shoot with a base rate of 23.98, 25, or 29.98 fps.

We look forward to seeing your videos. The competition will open in late September 2021, so start thinking about your entry!
